31st May '08 Blacktoft Sands

Blacktoft Sands

This is a great site situated near the confluence of the Trent and the Ouse, thus attracting many wildfowl, waders and all those other birds that enjoy this habitat. Being an RSPB reserve it is well managed and the facilities, hides are excellent. Judge for yourself the sightings we had today. :-
BITTERN*, BLACKTAILED GODWIT*, SEDGE WARBLER*,REED WARBLER*, MARSH HARRIER*, Redshank, Avocet, Whitethroat, Reed Bunting, Willow Warbler.
What did I tell you.
The Bittern by the way was seen just as we were leaving the Ousefleet Hide. It appearred from nowhere, dropping right in front of us to land in the nearby reeds. One of the wardens told us she'd not seen it this year!
