Very cold, strong wind, overcast.
Spurn Head
This was our first visit to here. We were expecting to see many migrant birds, but as we found out later we were a few weeks too late really. I had been doing a bit of research about the sightings and was a little worried we were out of our depth. This was the place for the big boys with the big telescopes! On entering the final drive just passed the cafe, we saw a group with their huge scopes and cameras focussed on someting 500yds away in the hedgerow to our right. Naturally being eager to learn of the interest, nosey, we pulled over and enquired. A Redbacked Shrike. What a start. Obviously we could only just make out the bush from that distance, but we were very kindly invited to observe the bird, a female. We bumped into the same gang a few times during the rest of the day and they were so helpful.
REDBACKED SHRIKE*, Shorelark, Curlew, Common Sandpiper, Grey Plover, Dunlin, Oyster Catcher, Little Egret, Ringed Plover, Turnstone, Greenfinch.
