8th January '09 Cresswell Crags

Cold, sunny, calm.

Cresswell Crags
A lovely picture of the Crags taken by George
This is first visit to the crags of Nottinghamshire. We went with J&G. The weather was superb, and George couldn't wait to get snapping. It was very quiet, but one would imagine it could be very busy in summer. There is a new visitor centre being built courtesy of Derbyshire Council. Very neighbourly of them. We didn't know what to expect bird wise, which was just as as well as along the route of the caves there weren't any. However the area here was very haunting and you could almost imagine George in his mammoth skin coming out of one of the caves and pulling Joan behind him, grunting something about his breakfast. Beyond the caves across a small bridge is a lovely area of mixed trees and shrub. This was where they all were. George get snapping me lad. We spent a good hour while having our snack watching the Willow Tits, having theirs. This was the first time I'd seen them when not on a bird table. It was delightful.
