Scalby Beck
Scalby Beck foreshore and Scarborough Castle behind.
The first time we came here we only covered the foreshore and the beck where it enters it. We did the same this time and then followed the beck along the Cleveland Way for a short distance. The foreshore with the tide receding gave the usual sightings. It was the rough scrub on the cliff tops above the beck that gave us plenty to talk about.
The footbridge over the beck leading to the Cleveland Way.
Some little pockets of scrub just below the cliff tops, as found all along this coast was full of surprises. One only has to get settled down somewhere comfortable and then wait for the birds to make an appearance. On the tilled fields just beyond the beck skylarks were in abundance.

We had a great days birding, and George even managed to get some shots of a heron on the foreshore.
