Lound
North of Retford is the village of Lound. The site is easy to get to by taking the Chainbridge road, past the Tarmac works. The road is very muddy. We stopped halfway along here at the side of a promontary that gave lovely views over Chainbridge Scrape. Then we went further along and parked on the other side of the River Idle. The Chainbridge Nature Reserve was alongside so we went in for a nosey. Its a delightful little wood with a couple of cosy hides. We didn't see too much but nevertheless enjoyed the visit and will go back again to see the rest of the site. It wasn't till we got back that we found out that Pintails had been seen on one of the ponds adjacent to Neatholme Lane. Just goes to show, I should have checked it out BEFORE we went not after!
