26th November '08 Bestwood Country Park

Cold, sunny, dry.

Bestwood Country Park

I had heard on the birding drums that waxwing had been seen here. So this was my first venture out as a TWITCHER! I'm not sure while I was stalking around the place if I looked any different, did I look like an anorak, even though I wasn't wearing one? So with great anticipation I made my way to Warren Hill. I got to see one eventually. I met a couple who had seen them at the same time and they told me they normally rested in an oak tree just into the housing estate near the school. As they were going that way they took me along with them. When we got into the estate, it was then I felt like a real twitcher. They showed me the Rowan tree that they fed on. The trees in question are all in peoples gardens and it just didn't feel right snooping around with binoculars and cameras. Perhaps you can only get away with that kind of behaviour if you do look like a twitcher.

WAXWING*, Redwing, Greater Spotted WP, Goldcrest, Goldfinch, Greenfinch, Bullfinch, Kestrel, Wren, Usual.
