Cold, low cloud.

This was our first trip here, and as usual the little tracks to the car parks are not always found on the first visit. We intended to head for the New Lane car park, missed the turn-off and ended up at the Beauvale Lodge layby. This is probably a good option if only the resevoir and Felley Mill are to be covered. After all, the woods cover quite a large area, and you can hardly cover great areas when the priority is looking for birds. So we prefer to cover a small area at a time especially on first visits. Then once the hotspots are known the area can be extended. The walk between the resevoir and High Park Wood was very pleasant but offered little to see bird wise. Not until we got to Felley Mill did things hot up. The alders were the attraction. Siskin, Goldfinch and tits were in abundance here. Because of a tight schedule we made our way back. I think on the next visit we will park at the New Lane site and cover Felley Wood via Abbey and Morning Spring Woods.
Siskin, Goldfinch, Coaltit, Chaffinch, Great Tit, Blue Tit, Fieldfare.
