Scrubland between Long Eaton FC and the railway lines.
The scrubland looking beyond the Trent to Branshill Wood
Many times while in the Erewash Field I have often wondered what the scrubland was like across the railway lines. Well now I'm here I can tell you its a great location. I can't believe this place has not come up on the radar before now! My very first sighting was of a bird I could not identify. Fortunately I managed to get a reasonable photo and later thought it could be a Rose-Breasted Grosbeak. Its a very rare bird for Europe and originates in N America. I'm awaiting identification from the experts. I could not believe how extensive this site is and even more surprised to find a small pond amongst it.
The small pond.
The brush around the pond was alive with Reed Buntings, Goldfinch and Bullfinch. I've just had my first identification feedback. Apparently it appears to be a Robin with aberrated head feathers, according to a BirdGuides expert.
Possible Aberrated Robin*, Reed Bunting, Bullfinch, Goldfinch, Chaffinch, Kestrel, Mistle Thrush.
