Heavy snow the previous day. Sunny, cold, slight breeze.
Wollaton Park
What a beautiful day, eh eh what a beautiful day! Not a soul had trod these woods since the disruption caused by yesterdays snow. Just the deer tracks everywhere. It was a good start. Redwings on the move just ahead. Its impossible to make any ground on these birds. Still I hadn't got my camera anyway. Into the wood the trees around me are alive with little pink things with long tails. Correct. Long Tailed Tits. Movement in the ferns to my right catches my eye. I thought it was a Wren at first, then with my goggles on it, am looking at a Goldcrest. Its there for ages and I'm now only feet away . Damn why hadn't I bought that camera! A flash of green ahead diverts me from the Goldcrest. When I get the optics on it, I almost drop them in disbelief. A Parakeet. After the initial shock I'm back in control and have a Greater Spotted WP in the end of my lens. Hang-on, it gets better. In the same tree but lower down another Woodpecker had dropped in, but much smaller. Yes! A Lesser Spotted WP. Time for a coffee. Theres a Nuthatch above me. Where's that camera? Following that little flurry, things got a lot quieter. Plenty of Goldcrest along the wall and the usual tits made it a very enjoyable trip. Can't wait to come back, with my camera!!
