It should be mentioned that on a visit here, the first thing you will see is 'The Wild Bird Cafe'. A small purveyer of snacks, managed by Angela, the friendliest person in Yorkshire. A most welcoming sight, especially during the cold winter months. And you won't get a warmer welcome anywhere. Come rain, snow or shine she'll be there, and when you've done your round and your hands are frozen solid, believe me there's nothing better to thaw them out, than a sausage and tomatoe cob. And should you have the misfortune to lose anything down the khasi, sunglasses, mobile phones, 500mm camera lenses, tripods, or even the odd pair of binoculars, superhero will come to the rescue.
We stopped off here from our trip to Far Ings. The weather was sunny and very windy and we could see, that wind, was bringing some bad weather, and soon. So we restricted the visit to the East Hide and then the Turret Hide. Then back for them cobs.
View across Island Lake looking towards the Reedbed Lake.
Every time you come to this site you can't help but notice improvements. Its a really well managed place and full credit must go to those responsible.
