11th March '09 Wollaton Park

Cool, sunshine, breezey.

Wollaton Park

After my previous fortune around the big oak, I revisited the area. The conditions were perfect for spotting with bright sunlight behind me. All I came up with were Goldcrests. No Coaltit, Tree Creepers or LTT. Time to visit the wood. Absolutely nothing. Well I say that, there were the odd Blue Tit and Great Tit. But one other thing I should mention. Since I was having no success in the open wood I was forced to try my luck in the mass of rhododendrens. As I approached a really dark, damp area a largish brown bird was flushed in front of me. It wasn't a hawk and I suspected that from that vegetation, it was probably a Woodcock. With it flying away from me I had no view of its beak so I can only assume what it could have been.

Usually when its a struggle to get anything on the list its worth a look on the lake. There right in the middle waiting to be counted was a pair of Goosander.

Goldcrest, Goosander.
