Thixendale
Thixendale is a remote village tucked in the dales of the Yorkshire Wolds. Apparently the village name is from an ancient tongue relating to the sixteen dales that are to be found here. The Wolds here are all chalk so we were particularly hoping to see bird life native to this. Taking the Wolds Way as it enters the village from the north, a nice little circular route can be done, incorporating the Centenary Way, then rejoining it to enter the village at the other end. The views throughout are spectacular as each turn in the path reveals one dale after another, tempting you each time to follow it to see what lies beyond. We didn't see any of those birds we thought we might but we still enjoyed it immensely. If you want to get away from it all, this is the place to come. To think only half an hours drive away the resorts are heaving with folk.
Some of the sixteen dales.
Chaffinch, Goldfinch, Yellow Hammer, Meadow Pipit, Red legged Partridge, Linnet, Great Tit.
