22nd April Attenborough Nature Reserve

Very warm, sunny, breeze.

Attenborough Nature Reserve

The new reed beds on Clifton Pond

After the success with the Grasshopper Warbler I am now on the trail of the Cetti's. This is getting serious stuff! After a tip-off from a fellow birder I staked out a path called 'The Bund'. Within 10 minutes that unmistakeable call was assautlting my eardrums. He was in thick shrub right at the side of me. I caught sight of it and followed it as it headed down the scrubbery keeping 5 paces ahead of me. It finally took flight into Pompous Tit Wood. I remained in the area for about an hour and picked up its call again. This time I had a really good sighting of it in fairly open low scrub and again tracked it as it moved away, as before. I just could not get a decent shot of it. Over the next hour I heard its call many times, sometimes at a distance and the next right at my side. After two and a half hours I had to abandon my mission. Grandkids! Still I left feeling as the previous days that I'd had a hole in one on the golf course. Now don't get expecting these sort of sightings every day.

Looking towards Clifton Grove.

Cetti's Warbler*, Willow Tit, Blackcap, Bullfinch, Wren, Reed Bunting.
