10th May '09 Blacktoft Sands

Mild, cloudy, strengthening breeze.

Blacktoft Sands
Blacktailed Godwits having lunch.
We've not been for a while, so a visit was almost overdue. The hides as usual were full, near to bursting at the hotspots. These usually vary between certain hides. The others don't seem to attract much for some reasen. I wonder if its because of the depth of the ponds. I've noticed on other sites where the ponds are paticularly deep, there is a conspicuous lack of bird types, waders for obvious reasens.

Avocets nesting.
The main interests today were the warblers. The reedbeds on the land side of the hides were active as usual. The other attractions were the Marsh Harrier and the welcoming sight of Godwits, our first this year

Views on the south side of the site.

Sedge Warbler, Reed Warbler, Reed Bunting, Marsh Harrier, Avocet, Shovelers, Blacktailed Godwits, Redshank, Little Grebe.
