Filey Brigg
We went to the Brigg to look for Wheatear. Having seen just the one here last year we were eager to find out just how many make the Brigg their home during the breeding period, and if in fact they do breed here. Braving the force 9 winds, and being in mind not to get too close to the badly eroded cliff tops we successfully identified 2 male Northern Wheatear. As usual on the top Meadow Pipit and Larks were all around.
And then there were none!
You can't go to Filey without calling in at the Dams. The early peace and quiet was broken by the cries of a Mallard calling for her young ones. I just got a glance of a fox disappearring in the undergrowth and the hullabaloo died down. Quite some time after we were amazed to see the fox trotting across the dam with what was obviously one of the chicks in its mouth. The picture above tells you the sorry tale far better than what I can.
Looking north towards Scarborough. Note the erosion above the harder chalk.
The Brigg - Wheatear, Meadow Pipit, Skylark.
The Dams - Common Sandpiper, Little Grebe, Lesser Blackbacked Gull, Herring Gull, Pied Wagtail.
