9th May '09 North Cave Wetlands

Cold, sunny, windy.

North Cave Wetlands

Island Lake.
We skip breakfast before heading north so we can partake an Angela Special. A saugage butty with tomato. Apologies for all those waiting for a picture of the mouthwatering feast. I had taken a shot of one of my sausages on the grid, being tenderly managed to perfection, but I'm afraid the result was below the level of excellence we expect on this page, and it would not have given justice to Angelas reputation, which believe me is far and wide. I've been in hides where North Cave has been mentioned. And inevitably the talk has not been about the wildlife but the butties! Oh yes the wildlife. Not a lot to mention, hence me going on and on about the breakfasts.
We did learn something though. We spotted what we thought at a distance was a Wagtail. It didn't quite seem the clear cut colours of a Pied so we thought possibly a Grey. As it got closer we identified it as the Pied. A man with a 10000mm scope told us it was a White Wagtail. Now whenever we see a Pied we have to make sure its not the White as the females of both look identical to us!
Village Lake.
White Wagtail*, Sedge Warbler, Whitethroat, Reed Bunting, Ringed Plover, Little Ringed Plover, Redshank, Avocet, Dunlin.
