2nd July '09 Thornwick Bay

Hot, sunny, windy.

Thornwick Bay

One of the many rocky bays along this part of the coast.

It being a gloriously warm day we took a couple of easy chairs to the cliff-top, to spend a relaxing hour or so. I took myself off on a quick lookover of the bay itself and on the way spotted Sedge Warblers, Whitethroat, Reed Buntings and Linnets. I was really on the look out for Rock Pipits since my success at Sewerby but there was no sign of any. Having gone to all the trouble getting down there I realised what a mistake it was to leave behind my camera. Some of the views were stunning from sea-level! I'll never learn. Anyway it wasn't meant to be a blog event but in the little time I spent before returning to the comfort of the chair, I had some decent sightings. None more so than of the Puffins swimming in the harbour itself. On days like this you can while away many an hour from a comfy chair, goggles in one hand and a glass of amber nectar in the other following the bird activity on and around the cliffs.

Sedge Warbler, Whitethroat, Reed Bunting, Linnet, Puffin, Gannet, Guillemot, Razorbill, Kittiwake.
