7th July '09 Titchwell Marsh

Warm, some rain, windy.

Titchwell Marsh.

View across one of the marshes.

After a three hour crawl eastwards along the A52, A17, we arrived at this well known reserve. Our visit here was more of a drop-in following a disappointing stop at another reserve not a million miles away from Titchwell. The visitor centre is excellent as is the entire site, but because of the low levels of the surrounding terrain and the inclemental weather, getting decent pictures was difficult. Hence my pathetic display here! We only got as far as the Parrinder Hide. It had been a long day. It was from this hide that we had our best sightings. I particularly enjoyed seeing the Spotted Redshank, a beautifully slender and elegant bird compared to its cousin the Common Redshank. Hopefully we will be able to return to Titchwell and spend a lot more time covering the rest of the reserve. September would be a nice time, to coincide with the arrival of migrating birds. And hopefully there'll be better pictures and write ups that this site deserves.

Well what can I say?

Blacktailed Godwits, Spotted Redshank, Redshank, Oyster Catcher, Avocet, Reed Warbler, Reed Bunting, Marsh Harrier, Sedge Warbler, Shelduck.
