River Trent from Beeston Weir to Clifton Bridge.
This canal rejoins the river several miles later.
From the starting point at Beeston Weir you can either walk into the Attenborough Nature Reserve or head north and follow the River Trent. Today I decided to do the latter. My mind was decided on the matter in order to see how the Stonechats were coping with the harsh conditions. As I got nearer to the set-aside fields just after the rugby club I could see something wasn't right. The set-aside fields were no longer set-aside, so no more Stonechats. This was a great disappointment to me and a good indication of how affective the scheme can be. Fortunately there's plenty more to see along the riverside. You can see just as much wildlife along the river itself than on the nature reserve not far away. As well as divers on the river there is a good variety of trees and shrubs to feed all kinds of birds. And the paths well maintained ensuring a nice steady amble. This path extends for miles both ways along the riverside.
Goldeneye, Goosander, Great Crested Grebe, Mandarin, Kingfisher, LTT, Bullfinch, Wren, Redwing, Kestrel.
