11th February '09 Attenborough Nature Reserve

Very cold, cloudy, rain later.

Attenborough Nature Reserve
Radcliffe Power Statiion from Erewash Field.

The snow has almost gone save for the remnants of the odd snowman and those massive snowballs. I decided to do the Erewash Field again. I'm still intrigued to find out wether the Stonechats will be back. Funny how you seem to get attached to something like that. The Field is incredibly waterlogged as is Trent Meadow. The only other drawback to this place is the piles of matter left behind by mutts. When I'm on my own I scan ahead for about 10 paces for a clear route so that I can tread safely while I scan for birds. If there's a group of us its better to designate the leading person as the 'dog shit-scanner'. Today was particularly bad for the deposits. I think its the first time some of them have been out for ages, and they've been hanging on to it. Anyway, no Stonechats. Its really bugging me where they've all got to! As with the GSWP's yesterday, today a pair of Green WP's. Is it a sign I wonder?

Green WP, Redwing, Fieldfare, Mistle Thrush, Chiffchaff, Wren, LTT, Chaffinch.
