The view directly in front of the Delta Hide
I thought it would be a change to visit the Delta hide and catch up with any news. Unusually I was the first there. Al's window is still boarded up. It was really cold in the hide, so I gave myself 30 minutes only for the Bittern. I'd not been in long and the door opened behind me. I knew it was Al. He had not been down for a while but knew it had not been seen for a few days. Well the pond is really frozen quite solid so perhaps, like the Stonechats is elsewhere. He also told me that a Buzzard I'd seen recently near Holme Pit was an American Redtailed Buzzard. I still have my doubts. Apparently Common Buzzards come in many variations of colour and can look quite creamy on the chest. It was time to make a move. I was losing body heat and needed to replace it. Besides someone else had come in and with only the two windows it was overcrowding. And just as I was moving out, Lou popped his head in. I circumnavigated the lakes and arrived back at the hide 2 hours later. It was now locked. I suspect nothing had been seen and with the pond being totally frozen there was nothing else to distract ones attention. On my way back I spotted a Goldcrest in small bushes right on the waters edge. Just lately I've been surprised in the habitats that these little beauties appear. I managed to get my first ever photos.
Goldeneye, Goosander, Wigeon, Greater Spotted WP, Bullfinch, Goldcrest, LTT, Chaffinch.
