Today on our 40th wedding anniversary the Two Little Dickie Birds decided to go to Elvaston Castle. Although we have been many times before we have never known that this nature trail existed. We stumbled across it quite by accident. Apparently the trail was constructed as long ago as 1970! The sign on the entrance to the trail was good enough for me. No dogs or cyclists. And several hides along the route all looking over lovely scenes.
What a delightful trail it is. Although not teeming with birds the scenary more than made up for it. With it being part of a country estate there are many different and sometimes spectacular looking trees, beautiful little streams bubbling over rocks, reed beds and of course the ponds.
View across Gretricks Field
All sorts of widlife habitats are covered in such a small place. Half way around is a bench sited ideally overlooking a pond and reedbeds. An idyllic spot on a summers evening. It was an idyllic spot for our lunch too.
Stonechat, Goldcrest, Bullfinch, Chaffinch.
