2nd March '09 Elvaston Castle Nature Trail

Cold, some sun, breezy later

Elvaston Castle Nature Trail

We enjoyed our trip to Elvaston so much I decided to revisit with Joan and George. This was their first ever trip here. Although we didn't see too much we all thoroughly enjoyed it. We did however hear a Barn Owl coming from the direction of the outbuildings at the trail entrance. And Joan heard a Woodpecker too. One particular spot where a small brook divides was of interest to George. Its the same spot I'd seen Goldcrest the day before. They were there today but proving very difficult to photograph as they were in the thickets. We took in the rest of the castle gardens, the topiaries and the walled garden. Its not the best time of year really for the latter. If ever you fancy a pint or three around these parts you will almost certainly come across pubs with the name 'Harrington Arms'. This name must be after the Harrington, original resident of Elvaston Castle. There are several by this name in the nearby town of Long Eaton alone.

Tree Creeper, Goldcrest, LTT, Chaffinch.
I'll never moan about having to shave each morning again!
