South Landing.
A view from the Heritage Trail looking towards Flamborough.
Those of you arriving here without provisions and expecting to dine at the cafe will be disappointed. The cafe has burnt down! From the carpark we took a clockwise walk along this circular, called the Heritage Trail. So called because of the many artefacts that can be seen on the way. Though sadly, some of these have suffered a similar fate to the cafe in that they can no longer be enjoyed by all.
Flamborough Lighthouse can be seen in the distance.
For those of you who had neglected to bring any provisions there is a feeding station after the picnic area. This is for birds! When you get to the metal bridge spanning the gulley, take a little time to read the names on the 'ribs'. The bridge is in the shape of a whales skeleton and on each rib on one side is the name of a whale and on the other the names of local fishing cobles. The path takes you out into the countryside passing Cliff House Farm, a former pub, and then to a prominent point overlooking Bridlington Bay. For those without provisions this is where we took our lunch whilst taking in the glorious views. The chalk path then leads you along the gulley edge and back to the burnt down cafe. It must be said that the majority of the birds we saw, Yellowhammer and Linnets can be seen without getting out of your car in the carpark.
The route navigates clockwise around this pasture.
Yellowhammer, Linnets, Meadow Pipit, Goldfinch, Chaffinch, Dunlin.
