5th August '09 Attenborough Nature Reserve

Humid, cloudy sun later, slight breeze.

Attenborough Nature Reserve.

Clifton Pond.

This was meant to be a swift visit between showers to shake a few cobwebs off. We didn't expect to see much anyway, but with Little Egrets and a Kingfisher seen from one side of the hide in Clifton Pond and a Green Woodpecker from the other in Wheatear Field we weren't going anywhere just yet. The hide is becoming so popular that the track leading up to it is a quagmire. And as winter draws nearer it will get worse. Feeling quite flush with our success we extended our visit with a little soiree up river, to check out the new pond developments. There are now clear views across the Coneries Pond to the visitor centre almost. Reed beds are to be planted in the area nearest the river to attract more wild life. The short stretch of path to this point is bordered by willows and a variety of berry bearing shrubs. These were alive with birds, presumably like us, shaking off a few cobwebs.

Looking across the Coneries to the church.

Little Egret, Kingfisher, Snipe, Green Woodpecker, Whitethroat, Common Tern, Red-Crested Porchard, Willow Warbler, Reed Warbler, Blackcap, Chiff Chaff, Buzzard, Kestrel.
