9th September '09 Bacton Woods

Cold, cloudy, windy

Bacton Woods.

If you go down into the woods today...

The woods are situated only a couple of miles from base camp. As woods go I think this is one of the finest I have been in. It is of mixed woodland and well managed. I love to be able to look into a wood, not as is sometimes the case when you can't see beyond the second line of plantings as is the case in a lot of conifer plantations. Bacton Woods are a delight. They are spacious, healthy and full of life, inviting you in to explore. Even Little Red Riding Hood wouldn't have been afraid in these woods! We didn't see any deer though, or the Three Bears. Again with woods you either see a few birds or none at all. It wasn't until we were within a stones throw of the carpark when we came across anything. And to my delight was rewarded with a Goldcrest.

See what I mean about the openess inviting you to enter.

Goldcrest, Coal Tit, Great Tit, Blue Tit, Wren. Dunnock.
