17th October '09 Potteric Carr Nature Reserve

Warm, sunny, slight breeze.

Potteric Carr Nature Reserve

Decoy Marsh from Old Eaa Hide.

Its still a bit early yet for the Bitterns on our local patch, Attenborough Nature Reserve, so we thought it would be a change to try Potteric Carr for what will possibly be our last trip around these parts till next year. We were there five minutes before the official open doors but were allowed in at no extra cost! There was nothing to get excited about on the sightings board and with nothing entered for the last few days my minds picture was changing from Bitterns to fungi. As it turned out we didn't see the Bitterns but we were not disappointed with the display of a pair of Kingfisher fighting for territory. Then a lovely escapee Parakeet croaking away near West Scrape. And 200 plus Golden Plover on Huxter Well Marsh gladdened the heart. And as a bonus I got a couple of shots of lovely fungus, one of a beautiful bracket fungus, the other I've yet to find out. Looking across Huxter Well Marsh.

Golden Plover, Kingfisher, Snipe, Dunlin, Green Woodpecker, Parakeet.
