Attenborough Nature Reserve.
Brrrr!!!
A happy New Year to all my millions of followers throughout the world. Just when you were thinking, no more 'Two Little Dicks'. Well we're back and looking forward to another good year, and for those still whining that we are, you know where the 'off switch' is! Before putting a foot outside the door, my first for many a moon, I kitted myself in full artic gear of, three pairs of socks, two vests, longjohns, three jumpers, a scarf and my all-weather wax, oh and a pair of trousers! In the rucksack was a thermos and Jillies ownmade Christmas cake, my survival rations. The artic weather appears to have driven up to five Bitterns into the reserve. All the sightings were from the new hide overlooking Clifton Pond. Thats it in the picture above. There was still a good layer of snow underfoot, making access fairly pleasant, but when this lot melts it will be like a quagmire, especially along the path leading to this hide. I had sightings of Bitterns just as I approached the hide and just as I was leaving it, and got a nice snap of a Willow Tit on branches just in front of me in the hide. Consodering the conditions it wasn't a bad days birding and I'm hoping to be back for the Merganser.
Looking towards the Tern platform.
Bittern, Goosander, Goldeneye, Wigeon, Willow Tit, Wren.
