20th June '10 Holkham Nature Reserve

Hot, sunny, breeze.

Holkham Nature Reserve.

A view across the pastures.
The stretch of dunes, sandspits, creeks, pinewoods and pastures from Burham Overy to Wells forms most of this reserve. On earlier visits to the reserve we had only covered the area from Wells and halfway to Holkham. So today we used the carpark at Holkham, a very popular place for people taking in the lovely pinewood walks or just a day on the beach. We loved the place. The hides are conveniently sited halfway up the innermost dunes giving glorious views over the pastures and marshes. We met very few fellow birders on the paths and none at all in the hides, perhaps they were all on the beach or at Cley. You don't have to go to Cley to see Harriers, Egrets and spoonbills you can see them all here for free!
The view from the hide.
Marsh Harrier, Little Egret, Spoonbill, Chiffchaff, Whitethroat, Willow and Sedge Warbler, Jay, Swallow.
